Once you are able to research Leadership and then Captains you may acquire additional villages. Once you have recruited a captain you can use them to either buy a village charter or send them with your army to capture a village from another player.

The price of a new village is determined by several factors including the current number of villages owned by the player and the distance of the target village from the captain's point of origin.
