We love Stronghold Crusader HD just as much as you do but it's technology is getting a bit old now and it has some weird issues with modern versions of Windows. The game was made with DirectX 7 and was not designed to work with modern computers and monitors with very high screen resolutions (the original release of Crusader only supported a maximum resolution of 1280 x 1024). As Microsoft release new versions of Windows, sadly the chance of them stopping support for the technology that runs games from the era of Crusader grows.
Stronghold Crusader: Definitive Edition uses a modern graphics engine (Unity) so ensure great compatibility with modern computers making it much easier for us to develop and maintain in the future. This has allowed us to fix bugs in the original game, add new units, add new opponents and add loads of new features to make Stronghold Crusader: Definitive Edition the ultimate version of this classic game.
Here is a list of new features to look forward to in Stronghold Crusader: Definitive Edition:
- Remastered Visuals and Audio - From the original game's developers, composer and new recordings from returning voice actors
- 8 New Playable Units - Bedouin warriors have been added to the game, each with unique attributes, strengths and abilities
- 4 New AI Opponents - New adversaries employing unique castle designs and tactics, bringing the total count to 20 AI Lords
- New Single Player Content - 2 extra campaigns and 4 'Sands of Time' skirmish trails, to learn the new units and challenge veterans
- Larger Maps - 4 times bigger than the original game unlocking larger strongholds and grander, more epic skirmishes
- Co-op Mode - A new 10 mission co-op skirmish trail, allowing two players to jointly play through a series of missions custom made for co-op
- New Multiplayer Content - New maps to play on, as well as Steam Workshop support and Steam multiplayer integration
